Paris is often referred to as "The City of Light" both because of its leading role during the Age of Enlightenment, and more literally because Paris was one of the first European cities to adopt gas street lighting. In the 1860s, the boulevards and streets of Paris were illuminated by 56,000 gas lamps.

Notable architectural landmarks of Paris include Notre Dame Cathedral; the Sainte-Chapelle; and the Eiffel Tower.

Valley of Fire State Park is the oldest state park in Nevada. It derives its name from red sandstone formations, the Aztec Sandstone, which formed from great shifting sand dunes during the age of dinosaurs. These features, which are the centerpiece of the park's attractions, often appear to be on fire when reflecting the sun's rays.

The state of Oaxaca is best known for its indigenous peoples and cultures. The most numerous and best known are the Zapotecs and the Mixtecs, but there are sixteen others which are officially recognized. These cultures have survived better than most others in Mexico due to the state's rugged and isolating terrain.

Archaeological and historic sites in Oaxaca offer a glimpse of the majestic builders their ancestor were.

I've had the opportunity to work on-site at Chichén Itzá while photographing for the film Tales of the Maya Skies. Sylvia got to see the film and hear a lot about these tremendous structures, but didn't get to see them first hand. So Route of the Maya was an OAT tour to new Maya sites for both of us, and a chance to learn more about a once sophisticated and thriving culture in Central America and Yucatán.

An Overseas Adventure Travel trip through northern India and Kathmandu. During our travels I managed to collect these panoramas.
